Building Profile

Polk Elementary School serves approximately 350 Kindergarten through fifth grade students. There are 21 full time teaching staff members including physical education, music, art, library and computer teachers. The professional support staff members include a school psychologist, school social worker, school counselor, reading consultant, speech and language therapist, homebound teacher and paraprofessionals. Polk offers assistance to students with special needs, such as:

  • Resource Room
  • Title I Services – Providing additional pathways for student success
  • Bilingual Services
  • Homebound Services
  • Behavior Groups
 

Assisting the school community in keeping the building operating is a team of highly skilled individuals including the principal, the administrative assistant, custodians, kitchen/ lunchroom personnel, and numerous school and classroom volunteers. Polk Elementary School is proud of theoutstanding support it receives from our Polk Parent Association (PPA), active parents and families.In addition, the school offers a before and after school childcare program.

The average daily attendance level at Polk is 95%.

Bell Schedules

The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. with the first bell. Five minutes later the tardy bell rings at 8:20 a.m. and all children should be in their rooms, ready for class to begin.  Students that arrive to school after the tardy bell must enter school through the main office and sign in before going to class.

  • Full Day Schedule
    • 8:15 a.m. first bell
    • 8:20 a.m. tardy bell
    • 3:17 p.m. dismissal

       

  • Half Day Schedule

    • 8:15 a.m. first bell
    • 8:20 a.m. tardy bell
    • 11:30 a.m. dismissal
 
If it is necessary to either dismiss school early or cancel school because of bad weather, parents and students will be informed by the following television stations: Channels 2, 4, and 7. If no announcement is made prior to 7:30 a.m. school will be in session as usual.
